The Okandogs Story

It's All About Caring

After volunteering at a local animal shelter, Jan and Tom Short saw a pressing need in Okanogan County—an area without funded Humane Societies or shelters. With no public support available, they realized any assistance had to come from private efforts.

In 2014, Tom and Jan formed Okandogs, a non-profit based in Cashmere, to meet this need. Since then, Okandogs has helped thousands of dogs through medical care, spay/neuter services, and adoptions.

Carefully chosen transfer partners help Okandogs maintain a nearly 100% adoption rate, with euthanasia and fatality rates near zero. The organization’s reach and impact have grown thanks to the support of a compassionate community.
Okandogs also maintains a vet emergency fund for injured and ill dogs without other resources. Their "Mom’s Last Litter" program provides free spay services for mama dogs whose litters are entrusted to Okandogs.
